The old stone structure, known for years as the Marion County “poor farm” and later as Cedar Rest, is providing service to humanity again. It is now called “Stone Prairie” and is a “life center” for the Back to the Earth Movement. The first outreach trip to Stone Prairie is planned for the week of May 5 through 10.
According to figures recently released by the government, some 301 separate businesses in Marion County employ one or more persons. In addition, there is an untabulated number that have no employees and are owner-operated. Of the 301 listed, there are 177 that have from 1 to 3 persons on their payrolls, 72 with 4 to 7, and 29 with 8 to 19.
St. Mark the Evangelist parish in Marion will celebrate the silver anniversary of the Catholic church here on Sunday, May 4.
Marion County Extension will have a tour of two different homes in the county showing remodeling and new home features. The tour will be at the Mick Summervill home south of the Marion County Park and Lake and the Allen Pankratz home 11 miles southwest of Marion. Storage will be the special feature observed on the tour.
