If all the shrubs and trees grow to maturity, Marion County Courthouse grounds should become a showplace of blossoms, dappled shade, and colorful foliage. Little trees and shrubs have been going into the grounds the past couple of weeks. Conyers Flowers was contractor for materials and planting.

Hal Soyez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rich Soyez of Marion, thrilled folks in the old hometown Monday evening when he flew his orange and white striped hot air balloon at about 1,000 feet over the valley, over the golf course, and out to the airport.

The first building to be constructed in the new Capitol area complex in Topeka is the Supreme Court building. Of significance to area residents is the fact that Lardner Cut Stone, Topeka, who has a base in Cottonwood Falls, has been awarded the contract to provide the stone for the building and that the stone to be quarried in Chase County carries a trade name of Cottonwwod Limestone.

Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bridges have made arrangements to purchase Marion’s Owl Car Café from Mr. and Mrs. Jay Pontious of Lincolnville. The restaurant has been closed for several months and will need to be closed for a few more weeks while needed repairs, refurnishing, and redecorating are completed.
