County population continues to climb, this year showing an increase in both the urban and rural areas. The county population now stands at 16, 210, according to figures released by Barbara Farley, county clerk. This is 392 more than last year.
Two Marion residents were among 84 employees of Hesston Corporation who were honored recently at a banquet for length of service. Deran Siebert and Eugene Waner both received awards for ten years of service.
On Tuesday, Darrell Weigart marked 30 years service in the U.S. Navy Seabees. He is a member of the reserve unit at Hutchinson where he is a Chief Petty Officer classified as a construction mechanic.
Cindy Friesen was named top girl athlete Thursday evening at the Kiwanis-sponsored athletic banquet. Jim Bredemeier, Bob Hett, and Ron Weber tied for honors as the boy athlete of the year.
The 25th anniversary, or Silver Jubilee, of St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church was celebrated in Marion this weekend. Father Paul Meyer served as the first pastor and did a great deal of the actual labor at building the church edifice. Former parish priests attending included Rev. Joseph Goracy and Rev. Victor Bieberle and current parish priest, Rev. Gerald Pathe.
