Melissa Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walt Hett of rural Marion, is a contestant in the “Miss Rodeo Kansas” contest at the Flint Hills Rodeo in Strong City this weekend. Girls are judged on their appearance, personality, and horsemanship.

Barry Linnens was elected president of the Florence Alumni Association at the annual banquet held Saturday. Other officers elected include Wayne Robinson as president-elect, Beverly Robinson Baldwin, as secretary, and Don Patry, as treasurer.

Five German students from Marion and one from Hillsboro are leaving Friday night for a three-week tour in Europe. Marion students are Jim Hoch, Gene Ewert, Terry Smith, Marsha Jackson, and Kathy Brenzikofer. Lynnette Thiessen is the student from Hillsboro. The trip was arranged by Mrs. Dwight Wiebe of Hillsboro, German teacher at MHS.

The Kansas Air National Guard has announced that low-level flights of jet aircraft will be observed over this area. The fighter planes are on missions to maintain low-level navigation proficiency. Up to four F-105 jets will fly the routes at one time, from sunrise to sunset on weekdays and occasionally on weekends. All routes lead to a restricted area 20 miles southwest of Salina, used as a gunnery and bombing range.
