A longtime dream will become a reality for two Marion women when a new western wear store, The Hitching Post, opens its doors Thursday. Mrs. Ken Monroe and Barbara Hunt have been working on their dream actively for six months, watching it take shape with the help of relatives and friends.

A plaque in memory of the late Robert L. Boese, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Boese, was presented on Friday to his parents by Dick Hamlin, representing the Marion High School Class of 1964. The plaque is to be hung in the trophy cases at the school. It reads “Robert L. Boese, 12-29-46 to 5-23-60. We Hold You in Our Memory Forever, Class of ’64.”

Cub Scout Pack 102 held its annual fishing derby Monday at Marion County Lake. Doug Kjellin caught the largest fish, Darren Penner, the smallest, and Tim Jirak won the award for catching the most fish.

A group of Marion County farmers were guests at the DeKalb AgResearch Center at Wichita last week to see new hybrid wheats first hand. Those attending the demonstration included Allen Propp, Raymond Kraus, Andy Schmidt, Don Kraus, Leroy Kraus, Darrel Helmer, and John Hayen.

The youth summer programs are underway. Directors of the programs are Marty Beaston, girls’ softball; Jim Richmond, boys’ softball; and Celia Byer, art workshops.
