A fully loaded propane tanker crashed into a ditch at the west edge of Marion early Monday morning. It was a dangerous situation, but the situation was well in hand. Safety experts were consulted for advice and it took all day to unload the tank and remove the wreckage with no dire consequences.
The most popular fishing spot during the past few weeks has been the north end of Marion Lake where fishermen chop holes through the food-thick ice and have been catching up to two-pound White Bass.
W.G. “Red” Carroll, who retired in May after 39 years with Kansas Power and Light, is the subject of this week’s “Personality Profile.”

John Siebert was on a business trip to Minnesota last week and found himself snowbound for a day or two during the time when their chill factor index registered 86 degrees below zero.
Don Vickers, Hutchinson engineer and architect, died Sunday. Vickers was well known in Marion. He designed the Marion Stadium, Swann Drug Stone, Farm Bureau office building, the renovation of Valley United Methodist Church, and several other local projects.
Ethel Hiebert Aldrich, RN, RNP, of Elko, Nev., was sworn in Jan. 3 as president of the Nevada Nurses Association. Mrs. Aldrich is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Bell of Marion.
