A modest crowd of interested people gathered at Marion Municipal Building Wednesday evening to hear the latest proposal by Ranson and Co. on community antenna television for the town.

Harold Ensley, known as ‘the sportsman’s friend,” will be in Marion this weekend for the sixth annual Marion Lake Fishing Derby.

Richard Wayne Britain and Jeffrey Lee Longhofer, both of Marion, were among 902 students honored during commencement ceremonies May 14 and 15 at Washburn University, Topeka.

The following births are announced in this issue: Jessica Jean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Dvorak of Marion, born May 24; Bradley Allen son of Mr. and Mrs. James Druse Jr. of Marion, born May 24; and Suzanne Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hett of Hillsboro, born May 26.

The 35th annual Girls’ State program will get under way June 12 on the campus at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Among girls from this area who will be in attendance are Molly Ferrell and Kay Blackman of Marion, Kerry Triggs of Lincolnville, Shirley Kristek of Tampa, Shelley Goertz of Durham, Cynthia Novak of Lost Springs, Debra Thurston of Hillsboro, and Bev Bezdek and Karen Stevens of Florence.

Pupils and teachers at Bown-Corby School proclaimed Thursday as “Mr. Just Day” to honor custodian Wes Just on his retirement. Just has worked as custodian in the Marion school system for 21 years. The last 16 of those years he has been at Bown-Corby.
