The front page of this issue has coverage of the Marion PRIDE’s triumph at the “Anything Goes at the Tri-County 4-H Free Fair” contest. A jubilant Gerry Harris is pictured as he holds aloft the check for first place. The $75 check was made out to the Marion PRIDE program and will be used for projects of the organization.

St. John’s Lutheran Church at Lincolnville will celebrate its centennial on Sunday, Aug. 14.

Grace Utting of Hillsboro has been hired as Marion County health nurse. She will begin work in the courthouse on Aug. 15.

Couples from across Kansas gather at Marion County Lake three times during the summer months for outdoor square dances. The dances, held on the fourth Saturday in June, July and August, are sponsored by the Marion City Squares club with Bud Pierce as caller.

Kay Blackman and Molly Ferrell made their report as delegates to Sunflower Girls’ State Monday at the regular meeting of the Kiwanis Club.

Mark Rathert of Marion has accepted a position with the internationally known golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr. of Palo Alto, Calif. He and his wife, the former Kathy Kelsey will leave for Palo Alto on Saturday.
