Cottonwood Valley Young Farmers — 12 busloads to be exact — visited Marion on Friday and stopped in Central Park for a picnic luncheon sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce.

Don Westerhaus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Westerhaus of Marion, has been named advertising promotion supervisor for Successful Farming magazine at Des Moines, Iowa.

An out-of-town visitor to Marion’s scenic Central Park left the following note attached to a tree: “To the Town of Marion — We are just tourists passing through. Such a beautiful park. We only wish the road entrance was in better condition.”

Mrs. Lee Bowers is featured in this week’s Personality Profile column. She is shown admiring a picture of sunflowers. The Kansas flower is one of her favorites.

A group of braided carrots, grown in Ivan Losey’s garden, is the main entry in this week’s Produce Derby. The carrots are from five to six inches long and apparently braided together as they grew, forming a twisted orange vegetable.

Kim Dykes, Brenda Smith, and Cindy Heerey look on as Carol Colburn grins with delight at a gift certificate presented to her by members of her junior girls’ softball team after they captured first place in the CVL tournament. The team has a record of 16 wins with no defeats.
