Announcement is made this week that Wayne Thies of Marion has purchased Kasper Draperies, Inc., formerly owned and operated by Leona Kasper. Jane Pippin will be production supervisor and Martha Boyle will be office manager. The business will continue to be located at the corner of Main and Cedar streets.

This week’s Personality Profile features Ward Dale, resident engineer for the Kansas State Highway Department for McPherson, Morris, Marion, and part of Chase and Dickinson counties.

A worker is pictured sandblasting the east side of the First Federal Savings building on the northwest corner of Main and Third streets. The old stone building was lightened by several shades and looks clean and new. It joins a number of others in Marion that have received facelifts and rejuvenation through sandblasting in the past several years.

Hajek Lumber and Hardware will hold a grand opening this weekend at Tampa. Operators Gary and Jerome Hajek are pictured as they plan the open house.

Kelli Kleinschmidt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kleinschmidt of Lincolnville, brought in a 20¾ pound cantaloupe, grown in the garden of their new home, for entry in this week’s Marion County Record Produce Derby.
