The City of Marion officials were informed this week that a federal grant has been approved for an Environmental Protection Agency authorized study of sewer gathering and treatment facilities.

“Old Settlers’ Day” — those are familiar words to most Marion people. Old Settlers’ Day will happen Saturday, with a well-organized and varied list of activities and events to please nearly everyone. Herb Wullschleger is general chairman for this year’s OSD.

A delighted Dorothy Hayward is pictured as she receives a $1,000 check from Dave Jackson at Dave’s IGA. She won the money in the IGA Cash Bash Sweepstakes game.

Alex H. Case is featured in this week’s Personality Profile. He tells of his family’s life stories as well as the history of Old Settlers’ Day.

This week’s issue contains reproduced copies of the entire front pages of Sept. 25, Oct. 2, Oct. 9, and Oct. 16, 1952, issues of the newspaper.

Births announced in this issue include Erika Kristine, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Heerey of Simi Valley, Calif., born Sept. 7, Lisa Marie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Andrew of Lomita, Calif., born Sept. 13, and Joshua James, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Cooper of Marion, born Sept. 17.

Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Vinduska celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 12 at St. Luke Hospital where Mrs. Vinduska has been a patient since suffering a heart attack.
