The City of Marion has signed a contract for construction of the new cable television system. Completion of the project is expected this spring, including the earth station that will capture signals from satellites.

Col. Anthony Smith, district engineer of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, has notified the Marion County Record that the completion date for the Marion Local Protection Project currently under construction will be in October.

Two water mains burst under Main Street Saturday afternoon and night, causing city crews to do a hasty repair job during adverse weather conditions. The first main water line broke about 4:30 p.m. just west of the Luta Creek bridge and the second about 10:30 p.m. in front of The Bakery. A fire during those times would have been a serious matter.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Scharenberg, featured in this week’s “Personality Profile,” first lived on land purchased by an ancestor in 1876. The couple now lives in the home built for them on Eastmoor Drive.

Jeanette Ruth Kirstein and Edward John Hett exchanged double ring wedding vows Dec. 30 in Calvary Baptist Church, Stafford. The bride’s father, pastor of the church, officiated at the ceremony.

Barbara Costello, Kay Blackman, and Paula Vinduska are this year’s candidates for the MHS Queen of Courts.
