A popular winter sport for those with some endurance is ice fishing. A large picture on the front page shows more than 50 persons who braved a cold but sunny day Sunday to try their luck near Durham Cove at Marion Reservoir.

Double ring marriage vows were exchanged by Beatrice McKibbin and Forrest L. Kelsey Jan. 3 at Eastmoor United Methodist Church.

The City of Marion signed a contract Monday with Bob Kelly of Kelly Construction Co. for construction of the “head end” building for the Marion cable television system.

Melissa Krispense, Marion Elementary fifth grader, won first place in a school spelling bee Friday. Runner-up was Jeff Conyers, sixth grader. Both will prepare for the county spelling bee to be held in the spring.

Tim Jordan, Danny Annis and Jeff Herzet won first, second and third places in a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby Jan. 16 at the American Legion Hall. Judges’ choices for best design went to Chris Meierhoff, first, and Devin Kelsey, second. Boys’ choices were Mike Bina, first, and Dale Heidebrecht, second.

Kay Blackman was crowned Queen of Courts Friday night between the Council Grove-Warrior games in Marion Gymnasium. Her attendants were Paula Vinduska and Barbara Costello.
