Gov. Robert Bennett told South Central Kansas Economic Development District officials, meeting at Wichita Thursday, that the town of Marion is the one he is “most impressed” with, having accomplished so much while asking for so little.

Marion Motor Center had a display of live cougars in the showroom Thursday afternoon. Many people gathered to watch the graceful animals.

The largest damages claim ever awarded in Marion County, an amount totaling almost $193,000, was given Saturday in District Court to Dorothy Schaeffer. Mrs. Schaeffer was seriously injured April 1, 1975, in an automobile accident on U.S. 56 north of Lincolnville.

Cub Scouts of Pack 102 are pictured displaying awards they won in the recently held physical fitness “Olympics” competition. The Cubs are Jason Bina, Greg Tice, Shane Holub, Dale Heidebrecht, Jeremy Schlehuber, Devin Kelsey, Chris Meierhoff, Darrin Jost and Michael Bina.

A television film crew will be in the Marion area Friday to shoot a phase of the 1978 “Seven Stars Over Kansas” film. The film will feature seven district FFA Star Farmers. Jerry Winkley is the South Central Kansas FFA District Star Farmer of 1978.

Eight students from Oral Roberts University will sing at Aulne United Methodist Church May 12. Marilee McGinness, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed McGinness is a member of the singing group.
