Forty-eight seniors at Marion High School participated in commencement exercises Tuesday evening at Marion Gymnasium. William Kroupa was designated valedictorian. Barbara Costello was named salutatorian. Outstanding senior girl was Molly Ferrell. Randy Just was named outstanding senior boy.
David Nelson of Burdick will join the staff of U.S. Senator Bob Dole in Washington, D.C. this summer. He will be a summer intern on Senator Dole’s staff for a month.
Six of the 12 board members of the newly organized Elderly of Marion County are pictured in this issue. They are J.L. Fruechting, Dr. A.E. Janzen, K.C. Widler, Mrs. John Wheeler, D.D. Regier, and Rev. Peter Goering. The first meeting of the group was held Friday at St. Mark’s Activity Center.
Boys’ State representatives and alternates from Marion High School are Barry Allen and Chuck Gough, alternates, and representatives Bill Hoch, Doug Heerey, Rick Richmond and Kevin Wilson. Girls’ State representatives are Margie Kerns, Pat Fruechting and Donna Stovall. Annette Nienstedt is alternate.
Col. Roger Hiebert of Marion will compete in the 1978 World Livestock Auction Championship contest to be held June 17 at Marshall, Mo. Hiebert is an auctioneer for the El Dorado Livestock Auction Co. and also cries farm sales in this area.
