Junior Bredemeier reported to the Marion city commission Monday that another leak was repaired in the century-old water main near the Dairy Palace, but it was not the main leak, for the water was still getting away after that leak was repaired.

State Highway Department employees stopped traffic Thursday on Main Street in Marion while the street was sealed and resurfaced from Cedar Street east to Marion Motor Center.

Commander David R. Montgomery, USN, as been installed as commanding officer of the USS George Washington Carver, nuclear submarine. The ceremony and change of command took place May 24 at New London, Conn. Commander Montgomery is the son of Dave Montgomery of Marion.

Charles Dannenfelser, recently named sales manager of the Marion Motor Center, is the subject of this week’s “Personality Profile.”

More than 60 Brownies and Girl Scouts from Marion and Florence learned outdoor skills and passed merit badge tests last week at Camp Gitchee Gumee. The day camp was pitched on the shore of Marion County Lake.

Participating in the Tri-County Junior Miss finals for the right to represent the community in state competition are Melinda Collett and Angie Smith of Centre High School and Renda Thompson, Marion High School.
