During Monday’s commission meeting at the courthouse, Ed Broz was retained as chairman of the Marion County Commission after Elmer Uphoff declined the position and Harold Jost, a Hillsboro resident, was appointed to serve the unexpired term of M.P. Thompson, who resigned in May.

Pictured on the front page of this issue is Max Hayen, county appraiser, who brought his IHC snow blower to work and helped clear sidewalks around the courthouse. Hayen said the blower has “come in handy” recently.

The “First Dollar of Profit” awarded to new businesses by the Marion Chamber of Commerce, was stolen this week at the Elgin House, according to Anita Sefcik, apartment complex manager. The framed certificate, with dollar attached, was hanging in the entryway of the building.

A full page is devoted to pictures of tubing enthusiasts at Marion Lake. Tubing is a little like sitting back in an easy chair, a lot like flying and definitely spine-tingling. Styles vary: Rhonda Donahue deploys the layback and smile style; Jeff Richmond flies sideways as Bill Hoch plays ostrich; Kevin Wilson is casual; and Casey Case hugs his tube and screams.
