The Pinewood Derby of Marion Cub Scout Troop 102 was held Monday at the American Legion hall. Winning first place in the race was Eric Kline, 8. Jeremy Schlehuber, 9, was second and Mike Wheeler was third. Wheeler also won first in design competition

Groundhog Day, or Candlemas Day, is Feb. 2 of each year. If the groundhog comes out of his hole Saturday in Marion, he’ll be looking at the candidates in competition for “Groundhog Queen.” Candidates are Larry “banker” Loomis, Larry “tennis” Reiswig, Jim “debater” McPheeters, Jeff “musical” Brewer, Dave “counselor” Stroud, Dennis “teacher” Parks and Larry “bandman” Lillard.

Engagements and chosen wedding dates announced in this issue were those of Laura Elizabeth Brose and Roger Lee Williams, March 17; Ann Cecelia Cameron and Terry Gerard Holt, June 9; and Pamela Sue Webster and David Vainer, May 5.

Quality Food Market is the leader in team standing after the first week of the 18th annual Women’s City Bowling Association. Doubles leaders are J. Grentz and R. Brooks. Lucille Britain is the singles and all events leader. Pat Oller had the thrill of converting a 4-7-10 split during this first week of the two-week tourney.
