With the help of numerous volunteers, 72 pints of blood were collected during the Red Cross Bloodmobile visit to Marion Feb. 7. One-gallon pins were awarded to Ruth Lange, Shirley Bowers and Margaret Tice. Those giving blood for the first time included John Slifer, John Carr, Jandee Smith, Donita Makovec, Lori Kelsey, Ken Hoffman, Kathy Sandwell, Rodney Holub, Frances White, Stephen White and Randy Hardey.

King Doug Heerey is pictured crowning his Queen of Courts, Annette Nienstedt, between basketball games Friday night. The host Warriors varsity team won, 80-51.

Mr. and Mrs. Reinhart Steinle will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house Feb. 25 at their home at 225 South Cedar, Marion.

Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Forsyth of McPherson announce the engagement of their daughter, Patti, to Tom Thomas, son of Virginia Thomas of Wichita and Dave Thomas of Marion. The couple will be married June 9 in Valley United Methodist church, Marion.

City employees held a surprise retirement party for former Chief of Police Lyle Sanders on Friday in the commissioners’ room at the city hall. Sandy Kramer decorated the cake and friends donated green “fruit” on the money tree.
