Moser and Associates, consulting engineers for the city’s planned sewer improvement and treatment plant project, will conduct smoke testing of city sewer lines next week. The procedure will identify places where unwanted water and other substances are leaking into city sewers.

It’s really a family affair for the two children of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Waner of Marion. They both are in the U.S. Navy. Construction Recruit Jerald E. Waner recently completed boot camp and is now stationed at Gulfport, Miss. His sister, Teresa Beth (Waner) Gomez, is stationed in Washington, D.C. and recently received a certificate of appointment to “yeoman seaman.”

Marion County Historical Society has undertaken the project of bringing up-to-date the book containing photographs of former county officials. The book will be on display in the lobby of the courthouse.

Melissa Krispense, a Florence Middle School sixth grade student, was top speller last Wednesday at the annual Marion County Spelling Bee. Runner-up was Stephanie Voth of Goessel. Linda Robinson of Florence will join Stephanie as county alternates at the State Spelling Bee April 28 at Washburn University in Topeka.

Mark Brunner, a Kansas State University freshman from Ramona, is a member of the KSU men’s rodeo team.
