Plans for the new Marion National Bank building were presented for approval at the regular meeting of the Marion City Commission Monday afternoon. It will be built at the present location, Main and North Third, and will include the area of the building just east of the bank.

Vandals have broken the top out of a Colorado spruce, planted two years ago in Central Park in memory of Dr. R.R. Melton. The Marion physician’s widow, Phyllis, discovered the damaged tree last week while surveying the effects of winter on the park’s trees.

Ruth Meyer’s “Personality Profile” for this week features Edith White, owner and operator of the Town and Country Café in Florence.

Several Wichita State University students from Marion will be honored Sunday at the 25th annual honors convocation at Wilner Auditorium. Those to be recognized are Sue M. Fruechting, Carolyn L. King, Sharon L. Kroupa and Janice Richmond.

Harvey Kruse of Marion and Hugo Hiebert of Hillsboro were recognized Thursday as the surviving members of the original 13-member board, which met and organized the Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperative at the Council Grove courthouse on Feb. 20, 1939.
