Plans are near completion for Saturday’s Arts, Crafts, and Aircraft Day, the festival sponsored by the Marion Chamber of Commerce and the PRIDE Committee. Plans include fly-overs by the Kansas Flying Farmers, two hot air balloons, private planes, and huge jet airplanes from the Kansas Air National Guard.

The 49th annual Marion County Fair begins this week in Hillsboro with competitive events for farmers, bakers, and bikers.

Special feature writer Ruth Meyer’s “Personality Profile” this week features Rodney Williams, owner of the Williams IH Implement dealership at Florence.

DuWayne Suffield, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Suffield of Lincolnville, attended the High Plains Music Camp Aug. 5 to 11. He was one of two drummers selected to play in the two bands that performed in the Junior High Gold Band Concert band. Members were selected from students in six states.

Johnny Loomis is pictured holding a 63-pound pumpkin. Johnny and his grandmother, Yetiva Young, hauled this most recent entrant in the annual Marion County Record produce derby to the office Friday.

Plans are being made for a Homecoming Day Sept. 2 for present and former members, relatives, and friends of the Pilsen parish.
