Marion PRIDE program and the Chamber of Commerce continue to work toward winning a second PRIDE Pacemaker award, something only Oberlin has accomplished in Kansas.

Marion became the air capital of the world briefly Saturday during the first Arts, Crafts and Aircraft Day. Airplanes and a helicopter circled and landed at Marion Municipal Airport and four jets roared over heads as thousands of persons jammed Main Street sidewalks and filled Central Park.

Caleb Abbott is featured in this week’s “Personality Profile” by special feature writer Ruth Meyer.

Boy Scouts from Marion climbed two mountains and camped out for one day last week at Greenland Ranch, near Castle Rock, Colo. Scouts camping were Miles Zeller, Monte Dale, Jeff Harris, Jeff Conyers, Danny Horsch, Tim and Mike Jordan, Danny Annis, Chris Meierhoff, and Roger Hudlin.

Mrs. Lloyd Suffield of Lincolnville is proud of her 1979 entry in the Marion County Record Produce Derby—a 10.5 pound head of Late Flat Dutch cabbage. It breaks her last year’s record of 7.5 pounds.

Newlyweds Mr. and Mrs. Barry Seifert who were married Aug. 11 at Sioux Falls, South Dakota, were honored at a reception Aug. 16 at Strassburg Baptist Church.
