The City of Marion on Monday approved letting the county use Marion Cablevision’s tower and building as the location for a proposed new radio transmitter for the sheriff’s department.

Dean Jost, who has been an investigator for the Butler County Sheriff’s Department, has accepted a position as arson investigator with the State of Kansas at Topeka. Dean is the son of Sheriff and Mrs. June Jost of Marion.

Centrefold, student newspaper at Centre High School, has named Julie Bina as editor. Lori Stika is in charge of layout and design and Steve Smith is production manager.

Julie Hett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hett, will be one of 34 contestants from across Kansas competing in the annual Junior Miss Pageant at Belleville this week.

Golden anniversary celebrations are not common, 60th anniversary celebrations are unusual, 70th anniversaries nearly unheard of—but this week Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Svitak celebrated their diamond anniversary, 75 years of marriage.

Jayson Hanschu, son of Mr. and Mrs. Junior Hanschu of Ramona, won first place in the 13-year-old division of the district Punt, Pass and Kick competition held Saturday at Arrowhead Stadium, Kansas City.

This week’s Personality Profile features Reuben Rempel, who was born southwest of Marion and, since 1945, has lived east of Marion at the edge of the Flint Hills.
