Marion, the town that’s been plagued by bad publicity for years—having a “flood mud” image—missed the headlines last Tuesday when four inches or more of rain fell in a downpour. Area newspapers, radio and television stations did not report on the “most recent flooding in Marion.” Instead, Marion people watched water flow around town and praised the new dike and channel that kept the community dry.

A welcome bonus of free cash will be the incentive to get shoppers to trade in Marion during the upcoming Christmas season. Rules will be much the same as the old Marion “Cash Day” program.

Jean and Jim Bridges came to Marion with four of their children eight years ago. Their story is featured in this week’s “Personality Profile.”

There was lots of fun, games, and treats at a Halloween party Oct. 31 at the home of Charlotte and Eric Thies. Others attending were Bobby Bivens, Andy Hett, Neil Hett, Shannon Klein, Jennifer McLain, Shelly Moore, Allison Ogden, Eric Pippin, Sherry Plenert, Robin Summervill, Jeff Williams and Ed Zeller.

Mr. and Mrs. Junior Hanschu and Jayson of Ramona were weekend guests of the Ford Motor Company in Kansas City. On Sunday, Jason represented Kansas, western Missouri, and Arkansas in the 13-year-old competition of Punt, Pass and Kick competition. He lost with a score of 321 feet to Todd Dysentra of Knoxville, Iowa, who had a score of 329 feet. But, it was a most exciting and memorable experience for Jason.
