Santa Claus is coming to Marion Saturday, Dec. 22. He will arrive by fire truck at 2 p.m. at the Marion City Building to visit all his little friends and give them a bag of candy. Group singing of Christmas carols, lead by Bob Brookens, will follow at 3 p.m. At its conclusion, the final Christmas Cash drawing will be held.

Bennie Holtsclaw, popular “county gospel” singer is the subject of this week’s Personality Profile by Ruth Meyer.

Kelli Hajek, Vicki Kay Hartley and Tami Stenzel are pictured selecting books to take home. The books are rewards for accomplishment in the Reading is Fundamental program sponsored by the Marion Parent-Teacher Association.

Birth announcements in this issue include those of Kati Jean, daughter of Brant and Jean Bergren of North Newton, born Dec. 3; a son, Chad Michael, son of Marlin and Debbie Buchholz of Marion, born Dec. 8; and a daughter, DeAnn Nichole, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Spencer of Marion, born Dec. 14.
