Ed Broz traded seats and passed the chairman’s gavel to Elmer Uphoff during Monday’s Marion County Commission meeting. Broz, second district representative, and Uphoff, third district representative, are up for election this year. Harold Jost, first district representative, was elected last year after he was appointed to fill the unexpired term of M.P. Thompson, who resigned.

The Youngtown community looked and sounded like World War III had arrived Monday afternoon when a gas gathering plant a mile and a half east of the church blew sky high.

Jury trial for Timothy Newfield, charged with murder and kidnapping in connection with the shotgun slaying of Peabody State Bank teller Grant Avery, will begin Monday in Bourbon County District Court at Fort Scott.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klenda of Lincolnville announce the engagement of their daughter Frances Theresa Klenda to Donald Dean Mueller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Werner Mueller of Tampa. The wedding will take place April 19 in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Pilsen.

Gail Regier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Regier of Marion, is one of several Tabor College students who are spending part of a four-week “minimester” interterm in New York City.
