The biggest snowstorm of the season struck Thursday morning unloading over a foot of the white stuff on Marion County and strangling transportation for nearly two days. None of the primary highways was closed in Marion County, though most were snow-packed and slippery.

This week’s “Personality Profile” features Steve and Frances White, operators of the local green house, Gilham’s Gardens.

Engagements announced this week include those of Vanessa Whitley and Steve Widler, Kathy Swank and Gene Ewert, Connie Kerbs and Don Phillips, and Marissa Kukuk and Gail Makovec.

Music, speech and art students at MHS presented the program at KanzAton Club Feb. 4. Students participating were Greg Boyle, Debi Rittgers, Cindy Heerey, Alice Hockensmith, and Marty Kroupa.

Mrs. Blair (Nancy) Tharp, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Earl Wood of Marion, has been accepted into the spring nursing class at Butler County Community College, El Dorado.

Tubing is a popular sport when there’s snow. Over the weekend hundreds flocked to the south slope of Marion Dam to try their luck on everything from skis to plastic sheets and tractor tubes. There were a few cracked ribs and bloody noses, but it was all for fun and fun for all.
