Marion City Commission fell prey to a rash of public criticism Monday when four angry residents argued the legality of the newly enforced junked car ordinance. Monday’s citizen action comes in response to over 70 registered letters sent out last week to possible violators. The letters informed these car owners that they were in violation of the ordinance and allowed 72 hours for corrective action.

Judge Melvin Gradert, 51, was sworn in as Associate District Judge for the Marion County District Court Monday. More than 35 attorneys, law enforcement officers and close friends attended the official robing ceremony at 11 a.m. in the Marion County Courtroom.

Social items include write-ups of two miscellaneous bridal showers. One, on April 18, honored Joanne Popp, bride-elect of David Loewen. The other, on April 12, complimented Marissa Kukuk, bride-elect of Gail Lee Makovec.

Sandy Bridges, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Bridges of Marion and a sophomore at York College, York, Neb., was selected for the coach’s award for contributing the most to team unit and spirit during the past volleyball season.

Les Fruechting, Marion Builders president, was speaker at the Kiwanis meeting Monday. He spoke on the proposed senior citizens center for Marion.
