Cedar Rest, the county-owned nursing home in Peabody, was sold to a pair of Chicago real estate investors Tuesday afternoon in a special meeting of the Marion County Commission.

The “Bluegrass Jayhawkers” will be among those playing at this weekend’s 3-day “Bluegrass in the Park” jam session at Marion County Lake. The group is composed of Nelson Funk, his wife Jane, and their daughter Denise of Marion and two Newton friends, Russell Morton and Arnold Zielke.

Ron Wineinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Wineinger, is one of two candidates for the office of governor at the American Legion Boys’ State now in session on the campus of the University of Kansas at Lawrence.

Junior Grimmett of Florence was the successful low bidder to construct a new all-steel building for the proposed ambulance garage there.

Mr. and Mrs. George Oborny of Marion announce the engagement of their daughter, Julie, to Val Klenda, son of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Klenda of Lincolnville.

Mrs. Earl Kreuter noticed an owl tangled in monofilament kite line in a tree in the back yard of Mrs. Charles Heerey early Friday morning. City men Harvey Sanders, Bob Matz and Robert Schmidt responded to a call Monday morning to help Game Protector Charles Schmidtberger and city superintendent Junior Bredemeier release the bird, which they did successfully.
