Over 200 Marion County residents attended Wednesday’s official groundbreaking ceremony for the Marion Senior Citizens Center on South Third Street.

This week’s Personality Profile features Phyllis and Butch Mueller of Tampa, who have opened a bright and shining new restaurant in the building formerly occupied by Tampa State Bank.

Larry Reiswig continues to lead the Marion tennis tournament, with several matches remaining to decide who will meet him in the finals. The tournament is being played at the East Park courts.

The grand opening of Flint Hills Clayworks will be held Saturday. The clayworks is located in the native limestone Rogers Building (former creamery) on the southwest corner of First and Main intersection.

Drought can’t stop the Record’s Produce Derby. This week’s entries came from Mrs. Morris N. Ehrlich of Marion, who brought in burpless cucumbers. The largest weighed one pound seven ounces and measured 16½ inches. A 20½-inch zucchini weighing five and a half pounds was brought by Mrs. Ivan Winter of Aulne. Lucille Olsen of Lincolnville brought in a half-dozen tomatoes. The largest “love apple” weighed one pound even.

Jami Shirley, Nancy Kline and April Ogden were among 200 girls who attended the five-day Heart of America Basketball Camp in Salina this past week.
