If engineering estimates are correct, Marion County stands to pick up 12 new bridges for the price of nine. A surplus of approximately $300,000 remains of a $1.2 million bond issue commissioners passed to replace nine hazardous bridges. Construction bids were lower than anticipated and commissioners decided to use the surplus to replace three more bridges.

A feature story by Karen Bradshaw tells of several residents who enjoy jogging. Joggers recognized in the article include Dr. and Mrs. Caleb Abbott, Lori Harris, Alex Case Jr., Polly Ferrell, and Larry Loomis.

Martin Tice has completed a course in auctioneering at the Missouri Auction School in the Livestock Exchange at Kansas City. Robert Hoffman has completed a course at Reisch World Wide College of Auctioneering at Mason City, Iowa.

New staff at Marion High School includes Lee Dalrymple, principal; Mark Bradshaw, guidance counselor; Rick Cox, instrumental music; JoAnn Good, Spanish; Janet Longhofer, English; Cheryl Peterson, physical education; and Penny Wika, English, yearbook and debate.

Kathy Mueller, Marion, has been appointed new director of the Eastmoor Day Care Center. She replaces Jolene Reiswig, who is stepping down after a year and a half as director of the center.
