Marion County elective officers were sworn in Monday, all except Treasurer Kathryn Schimpf, who will succeed herself in October. Inventing their own recipes in a food exploration class, Jeff Christensen, Nathan Smith, Gena Helmer and Tammy Sandwell are pictured cleaning up after serving their prize-winning dishes. Tammy won first, receiving an insulated thermos. Christensen and Smith are the only male members of the class. Both placed in the contest.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Hett, rural Marion, announce the engagement of their daughter, Julie, to Dwight Nelson, son of Mrs. Ivan Winter, rural Marion, and the late Arlyn Nelson. A May wedding is planned.

Subjects of an article by special feature writer Ruth Meyer this week are Bob and Kathy Sprowls, who purchased Kingfisher’s Inn from Cecil and Emily Post in 1980.

Jan Nuss, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland Nuss, Marion, will represent Kansas in the National Shorthorn Lassie Queen contest this weekend in Denver. Active in the Kansas Junior Shorthorn Association, Jan is a senior at Marion High School.
