The redevelopment plan for downtown Marion, as proposed following a study made by the Kansas Department of Economic Development, will be presented at a public meeting May 5 in Marion Municipal Auditorium.

Jim Lehrer, co-anchorman of the nationally televised MacNeil/Lehrer Report and author of the book “We Were Dreamers,” visited Marion Saturday while on his way to be host of the Messiah Festival broadcast at Lindsborg. He enjoyed visiting with Mrs. Ralph Melton and seventh grade classmate Eugene Christensen among others at the home of Bill Meyer.

A Turbo Thrush Commander single-engine, low wing spray plane crashed in a field a mile west and one-half south of Hillsboro Friday killing the pilot and releasing toxic pesticide in the area. Residents within a one-half mile radius of the crash were evacuated.

Scouts attending the Scout Seen N Do III Show in McPherson April 11 were Cubs Brian Crofoot, Mike and Eric Kline, Eric and Dirk Kannady, Billy Davis, and Chris Loveless and Webelos Jason Bina and Jason Childs.

Melvin R. Hett, son of Russell Hett of Marion, was named “honor graduate” in commencement ceremonies Friday in Oklahoma City for Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation’s fifth training academy. Hett is a forensic chemist in the OSBI Enid Regional Laboratory.
