Saturday morning dawned bright, clear, and beautiful for everyone to enjoy Old Settlers’ Day. There were many class reunions. Graduates of Marion High School shared the limelight at the annual Old Settlers’ Day parade. They came from all across America to celebrate their 50th, 40th, 30th, 25th and other anniversaries.

The University of Kansas has named Martin Tice and Jim Christensen to head the Marion County committee of the 1981-82 KU Honors Program.

Amy Raleigh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bob Raleigh of Marion, was the winner of a new bicycle awarded by Quality Food Market this week. The bike was a prize offered in connection with a promotion on large bottles of 7-UP, RC Cola, and Root Beer.

Roger Wilson is pictured as he dives for a loose ball in the Marion backfield Friday night. Wilson carried seven times for 34 yards in the Warriors’ 7-12 loss to Chase County. Quarterback Kerry Kelsey, was sacked eight times on the night. Cindy Heerey, who was crowned FFA sweetheart at halftime, is pictured with her escort, Jim Padgett.

Karen Hayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joel Hayes of Florence, and a sophomore at Tabor College, is chairman of the publicity crew for the upcoming drama presentation of “You Can’t Take It With You” at Tabor.
