Members of Happy Hustlers 4-H Club, supervised by Suzanne Thole, community leader, planted shrubs this week at East Park. Co-chairmen of the project, Annette Kline and Jolene Smith, are pictured with shovels. Other recent improvements at the park include an underground watering system and well.

Saddle up ol’ Paint and ride into Marion Saturday, Oct 24, for the Western Days promotion being sponsored by Marion Chamber of Commerce. Stores will be stocked with special values. A Jackpot Rodeo will start at 4 p.m. on the shodeo grounds arena in Marion Athletic Park.

Two of the six girls as finalists for homecoming royalty at Hutchinson community College are from Marion. They are Neletha Nelson, a sophomore and the daughter of Lois Winter, and Janice Wiens, also a sophomore, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wiens.

Charlotte Thies, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Thies, celebrated her 11th birthday Friday by inviting Tami Ottensmeier, Jennifer McLain, and Robin Summervill to her home for a wiener roast. Later the girls attended the football game, then spent the night at the Thies home.

Elmer Leppke and many other farmers can point with pride to their bumper feed crops this fall. The forage sorghum in Leppke’s field five miles south of Marion stands 10 feet tall and will probably make 40 tons of silage to the acre.
