Marion has been selected as one of 10 communities to participate in the second quarter of the Kansas Department of Economic Development’s Community Development Technical Assistance Program. The project will develop a method for implementing the Marion Downtown Redevelopment Plan already completed by KDED.

Candidates for this year’s Marion High School Homecoming Queen are Margi Dyck, Mickey Costello, and Jami Shirley. The 1981-1982 queen will be crowned at halftime during the Marion-Herington game.

The new St. Luke Medical Clinic will be open for public inspection Sunday afternoon from 1 to 4 p.m. The clinic was constructed mainly from funds donated by private contribution.

Limping to class was part of the assignment of Pauline Edmunds’ fourth grade reading students. The Marion Elementary School children spent a day taking on the burdens of the handicapped. Pictured are Lori Plenert, Traci Helmer, Jennifer Thole, and Tara Abbott on crutches. Other members of the class were pushed to class in wheelchairs and guided down the halls while blindfolded.

John Britain doesn’t want to be confused with Jimmy Carter, but he is proud of the peanut crop grown this year in his garden at Marion. Britain’s is the only peanut entry in this year’s running of the Marion County Record Produce Derby.
