Members of the Marion County VFW post have been working all week to get ready for today’s Veterans’ Day celebration and unveiling of the Gold Star Memorial there. An attractive new entrance has been added to the post home, a monument constructed, and the names of those killed in combat added. A free soup supper will follow the 3 p.m. dedication ceremonies.

Jost Construction Co. workers prepare the lot at the corner of Main and Fifth for the new building to be built there for Gene Winkler. He plans to move the Goodyear Tire Center on Stadium Rd. to the downtown location.

Over 125 people were on hand Sunday to celebrate the opening of the newly remodeled Tampa Sunflowers’ senior citizens center. The project was sponsored in conjunction with the Tampa American Legion and Legion Auxiliary, who hold interest in the building.

In a surprise move Monday afternoon, Police Chief Kenneth Hoffman announced his resignation, which will become effective Sunday. Hoffman, formerly a trooper with the Kansas Highway Patrol, has been an officer in the local police department since March 1, 1978.
