Marion City Commissioners received preliminary approval Friday from the Kansas Water Office to purchase water from Marion Lake. Decisions were made to approve annual contracts for 2.3 billion gallons of water — and Marion was awarded preliminary approval to purchase water at 7.4 cents per thousand gallons. The city has asked for 237.5 million gallons a year.
Dan Helmer, a December graduate of Emporia State University, has accepted a position in the asphalt sales field with Pester Refinery of El Dorado. Dan is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Helmer and a graduate of Marion High School.
Marion County will be in the path of a regional flight path for B-52 and F-111 training exercises to be conducted Jan. 25 through June 11. The flight path enters Marion County just west of Burns and runs northwest to a point about a mile west of Durham, according the public information office of McConnell Air Force Base.
Those who own microwave ovens, as well as those contemplating owning one, are invited to participate in a class offered by Marion County Extension. The class is to be taught Jan. 18 and 25 and Feb. 1 and 13 by Judy Christensen at Lynn’s Farm Equipment.
Stan Williams scored 14 points and hit the boards for 15 rebounds Friday night to lead Marion to its first win of the season, 67-43, over Centre.
