Five Buddhist monks led a group of over 20 marchers, a company of international peace demonstrators, into Marion Monday protesting the build-up of nuclear arms. The march will end at the U.N. building in New York in June.

Ten applicants were interviewed by county commissioners Monday for the job as county noxious weed director. The new director will take over the post held for the past four years by Roger Hannaford III, who is stepping down Feb. 1 to go into private business.

The health clinic at Lincolnville will be discontinued until spring. Not enough have turned out for the free clinic to keep it open at present.

Bill Meyer, editor of the Marion County Record, has been selected as a guest lecturer in journalism at Wichita State University. Charles Pearson, director of the WSU department of journalism, said Meyer will speak to a class of graduate students on the topic of community journalism.

John and Cleo Loomis presented a check for $5,000 to Hospital District No. 1 at Thursday night’s meeting of the hospital board. The Loomises said they were happy to contribute to the hospital operation and hope the gift will help Marion continue as a leader in services to the elderly and the infirm.
