The T-shirt Shop and Arcade in Marion has started a book exchange. The exchange was started as a community service and operates by people bringing in two books and exchanging them for one.

Jim Koslowsky, a native of Marion and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Koslowsky, spoke to Marion Kiwanis members Monday noon about his job as a financial administrator for Campus Crusade for Christ at San Bernardino, California.

Three seniors at Marion High School Cindy Heerey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Heerey, Lisa Richmond, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Delton Richmond, and Linda Robinson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Robinson, have been selected to compete in the Tri-County Junior Miss pageant July 25 and 26 in Herington.

Florenceā€™s only barber, Fernley Deyo, 76, is pictured cutting the hair of Bill Scobee of Cedar Point. Deyo, who started cutting hair in Florence in April 1939, plans to retire July 3 and will be honored at an open house from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dairy Corner in Florence.

The board of education of Marion Unified School District gave Superintendent Daryl Woodson a big vote of confidence Monday night by raising his annual salary from $33,000 to $35,000, a six percent increase. His contract is for 12 months.
