Lysle Russell is pictured as he examines two Paradise trees that were blown over in Thursday morning’s windstorm. The two huge trees stood on the west side of Marion Christian Church. They lifted two slabs of concrete sidewalk as they fell. Winds gusted up to 85 miles per hour as they ripped through Marion at 6 a.m. Thursday.

Birth announcements in this issue include a boy, Austin Paul, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Boggs of Cimarron, born July 14; Caleb Michael, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Johnson of Wichita, born July 16; Samantha Gayle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stacey Collett of Marion, born July 20; Zachary Nicholas, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Holub of Marion, born July 21; Jeremy Leighton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Kinning of Marion, born July 25; and Jennifer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Staatz of Ramona, born July 26.

Gerry Harris and Marsha Ames, representing the Marion Chamber of Commerce, presented Jeff and Betty Hutchison their “First Dollar of Profit” certificate. The Hutchisons took over operation of the motel in April, purchasing it from Mr. and Mrs. David Longhofer.

Lester and Ruth Ann Griffith of Marion are hosting an 11-day tour of the major Hawaiian Islands beginning Nov. 7 and are looking for others from the area to join them on the excursion.
