County Attorney Doug Westerhaus received a hearty pat on the back from Chicago-based radio commentator Paul Harvey Saturday. He commended Westerhaus, over his national network newscast, for his handling of juvenile corrections in Marion County.

Marion’s fourth annual Art in the Park event is Saturday.

Mary Medina of Florence, a graduate of Marion High School, is pictured as she receives a $400 scholarship from Stanley Anderson and Ernest Holub of Ecker-Slifer-Fulkerson VFW Post 6958. It is the fourth annual scholarship presented with proceeds coming for weekly bingo parties sponsored at the VFW club. Medina plans to study accounting at Wichita State University.

In a decision that will bring mental health services closer to the physical health services of St, Luke Hospital, the board of directors of Marion County Hospital District 1 Thursday night approved a request from Prairie View Mental Health Center for space on the hospital grounds.

Births announced this week include Dalene Kaye, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Dean Loyles of Florence, born July 31; Christen Lee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Tajchman of Lincolnville, born Aug. 8; and Tia Maria, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Ewert of McPherson, born Aug. 14.
