The Ramona State Bank was robbed of nearly $7,000 at noon Friday by two men who forced bank employees into a room before fleeing in their car. Marion County sheriff’s officers gave chase of the vehicle and apprehended the suspects at about 2 p.m. near Council Grove. The men, Topeka residents, where taken to Marion County Jail where they await formal charges on Tuesday.

Alf Tangvald, foreign exchange student from Norway now enrolled at Marion High School, was guest speaker at Monday’s Kiwanis Club meeting.

Work will begin Monday morning on the new bridge that will cross the Cottonwood River at the foot of South Third Street in Marion. The project is the combined effort of the Kansas Department of Transportation and Marion County, using federal funds for the bulk of the construction under the FAS road system budget.

Weddings reported in this issue include those of Peggy Owens and Gary Waniska, Aug. 21, and the double wedding of Lynn Colburn and Jeffrey Hines and Carol Colburn and David Hicks on Aug. 28.

Those with any degree of musical ability are urged to join the Rube Band. The band is older than Old Settlers’ Day itself. Marion had a clown band in the earliest days of the town’s history. The tradition of marching in each OSD parade is a strong one, and it deserves to be continued.
