New in Marion are two high school boys from Brazil spending their summer vacations in the United States. Eduardo Brasil is living with the Roger Hannafords. Carlos Oliveira is living with Mr. and Mrs. C.A Brandli, Debbie and Gregory. The boys were brought to the United States by the international Fellowship organization. They will attend Marion High School during their stay in the U.S.

As stated in the year’s “Progress Report,” Marion restaurants did exceptionally well in 1973. Al Hunt, proprietor of the Cozy Café, called 1973 a good year for his restaurant. Charlie Frans, owner of the Burger-Shake, said it was a “fantastic” year. Stan May at the Dine Inn called the year “unbelievable,” and Hazel Pontious said the year had far exceeded expectations when they purchased the Owl Car Café in April of 1975.

In 1973 the vehicle department of Marion County issued these tags: automobile tags, 7115; truck tags, 4524; motorcycle tags, 735; trailers for hauling or camping, 350; non-highway mobile homes (not moved), 163.

Debbie Garrard Hardey was honored with a miscellaneous bridal shower at the Charles Kjellin home on Dec. 24. Hostesses were Mrs. Kjellin and Mrs. Lester Kremeier.

Coterie Club is sponsoring three contestants in the annual Kansas Federated Women’s Club district fine arts contest. They are Mark Ottensmeier, music; Carla Stovall, speech; and Janet Ehrlich, art.
