The City of Marion has approved the purchase of trees by the tree board, for planting along streets in town. If you would like to have a tree planted on your parking, contact the City Clerk’s office before Feb. 10.

Charles DeForest, young Peabody farmer, was selected Friday night by Republican precinct committee members of the third commissioner district to succeed the late Ronald Gaines. DeForest will fill the vacancy until the next election.

Marion High School “Queen of Courts” will be named Friday night at Marion Gymnasium. Nominated are Diana Case, daughter Mr. and Mrs. Alex Case Jr.; Denise Westerhaus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Westerhaus; and Sharon Anderson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Anderson. Escorts will be Butch Gaffney, John Higgins, and Jim Richmond.

Births announced in this issue include Tricia Leanne, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John K. Hett, Anchorage, Alaska, on Jan. 9; Kara Renae, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Alexander, Lincoln, Neb., Jan. 17; and Jennifer Alice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Wegerer, Colwich, Jan. 25.

Leo Waner, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Waner, was named on the Dean’s Honor Roll at Kansas Newman College, Wichita.

Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Bogart were honored Sunday at the home of their grandchildren, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Jirak and family, in celebration of their 67th wedding anniversary.
