Approximately 20,000 young Kansas men, who were born during 1955, will have their Selective Service System lottery numbers drawn on March 20. The lottery is held each year, even though the authority to draft men into the Armed Forces has expired. Numbers drawn will form a standby pool of “readily inductable” men during the calendar year of 1975.

The old safe that has served the Marion County Treasurer beyond recollection of any officials now in office, was moved out Monday. Johnny Liles guided the old Mosler out through a window. A new safe was installed recently in the vault where the old one had stood for decades. It had been purchased second hand from the American State Bank of Peabody. The American State was merged with the First National at Peabody after the bank moratorium of 1933. How or when the ton of safe got to the courthouse is not clear, but it is now at Mack-Welling Lumber Co., waiting for some historical society of the county to claim it as an exhibit for their museum.

Marion Methodist youths, Marty Beaston and Sharon Anderson, met with a fellow Methodist recently while in Washington, D.C., on the United Methodist Youth Fellowship study program. They had the opportunity of meeting with Congressman Garner Shriver, who represents this district to discuss current congressional issues.
