Twenty-two year-old Ronald E. Young of Wichita was killed Thursday morning when he was accidentally buried in a ditch at the south edge of Marion on the Third Street road. A construction crewman employed by Diamond Engineering Co. of Wichita, Young and others were burying telephone lines for Southwestern Bell Telephone Co.

Births announced this week included Alan Carter Meisinger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Meisinger of Marion, born March 18 and Michelle Ann, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Druse Jr. of Marion, born March 23.

Town and Country EHU members and their husbands, assisted by other willing workers in the Lincolnville community, pitched in recently to move playground equipment from the former grade school to the city park. After the work was finished, they all sat down to take a ride on the merry-go-round.

Marion High School was honored last week when Cindy Esslinger and Melissa Hett were invited to participate in the Eastern National Forensic Regional tournament at Kansas City. A national committee selected the two Marion girls to attend the regional, one of the toughest in the country. Though they did not qualify for the nationals, they did remain in the running until the final stage of competition.
