Flags have been donated, and contributions collected well above expectations for the Avenue of Flags project at Marion Cemetery being accomplished by James William Miesse Post 22 of the American Legion. Over 40 flags were donated and contributions of cash have been sufficient to purchase the poles and engraved plaques to carry out the project.

Jim Richmond, Marion High School senior and son of Mr. and Mrs. Kent Richmond, was named by a vote of coaches as the school’s “Athlete of the Year” at the annual Kiwanis sponsored athletic banquet Monday evening.

Pat Kjellin, Marion FFA chapter sweetheart and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kjellin of Marion, was selected as the South Central District FFA Sweetheart at the contest held in Kiowa on Friday.

A large group of friends and relatives attended the open house at Valley United Methodist Church Sunday honoring the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe King of Marion. Refreshments of cake, punch and nuts were served by Mrs. W.M. Pierce and Mrs. Bill Meyer. They were assisted by members of the church’s women’s society.

Mark Moffitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Moffitt of Tampa, has been elected president of the Inter-Residence Council at Wichita State University for the coming school year.
