Garvey International Inc. of Wichita this week announced the purchase of Marion Elevator Co. of Marion. Herman H. Behrendt, manager of the Marion elevator for the past 25 years will continue with the Garvey operation. Cook Grain, Inc. of Emporia had owned the business.
Wheat harvest is in full swing not many miles to the west of Marion, however not much grain is coming in yet at the elevators in Marion. Wheat was up 25 cents a bushel Tuesday, to around $3.75, showing that the harvest is not quite up to early expectations.
A surprise party honored Dr. T.C. Ensey Saturday at the Colonial House Restaurant in Hesston, marking his 25th anniversary in practice at Marion.
Virgil Litke has erected a native stone monument with bronze plaque on his farm southwest of Marion. It marks the trail newly-arrived Mennonite settlers took in 1874 from Peabody to the Gnadenau territory.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Helmer were honored the evening of June 17 with a come and go housewarming. Hosts for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Groening and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Groening.
Mr. and Mrs. Rosse Case, Brad and Theresa spent the weekend in Kansas City with Mr. and Mrs. J.L. Stone. Mr. and Mrs. Case were guests of their children at Tiffany’s Attic on Saturday in honor of their 25th wedding anniversary.
